SysPlayer is a small, compact download that allows PC users to experience the player capabilities of a program like VLC in a package that’s much lighter.

What You Get with SysPlayer

There have been media players out there since the first personal computers were released, and most operating systems deliver high-quality players that users find relatively sufficient. However, today’s computer users typically tend to play media in a wider variety of file extensions than something like Windows Media Viewer can handle. This is where a program like the SysPlayer comes in handy. As a multimedia player, it offers support to a very broad range of file types.

People who are familiar with media players and codecs understand that a download to go along with the OS’s media player is essential. Whether it’s an all-in-one codec pack like FFD Show or the K-Lite pack, the fact of the matter is that popular operating systems do not provide enough support with their media players. SysPlayer, developed by Goobzo for Windows 7, has these codecs already built in, and the total file size is only 820 KB, which makes it lighter than a lot of browser add-ons. The fact that it’s a standalone player that is free and small is a positive.

Some Features of SysPlayer

The features of SysPlayer are lacking in some areas, which makes it a middling player at the end of the day. It doesn’t stream video and isn’t nearly as feature-rich as a program like VLC (the crème de la crème of free players). However, what it lacks in those extended features, it more than makes up for in simplicity. The first thing to take note of with SysPlayer is that it’s very light on resources. You can play the thing for hours and your activity light probably won’t even flicker.

It also does something many other media players do not, in that it plays webcam capture videos. Most players require that you convert these captures into typical formats before playing, which can be very time-consuming and processor-intensive.

There are still some pretty cool playback features as well, so it’s not as SysPlayer is only a light version of some other player. There are speed control options, a full screen option that doesn’t cut off half the screen like other players and even a screenshot mode that might come in handy depending on what you’re using the player for. Overall, it packs about as many features as one might expect for a player of its size.
